Festive Happenings Happen All Spring

Spring is all about new beginnings and celebrating life, and what better way to do that than with a festival. Diverse festivals abound throughout the Southeast, featuring live music, delicious food and wine, dance, art, and so much more.

Johnny Mack Brown Western Festival

Dothan, Alabama, May 9

YellaWood sponsors this festival that features Dothan's own hometown Hollywood hero, Johnny Mack Brown, who starred in 127 western movies, including Ride 'Em Cowboy, with Abbott and Costello, and The Oregon Trail. Before that, he was a star halfback for the Alabama Crimson Tide and helped lead his team to the 1926 National Championship. Festival activities include live music and a barn dance, a chuck wagon cook-off, and a trick-roping exhibition.

Jubilee City Fest

Montgomery, Alabama, May 22-23

A Memorial Day tradition in Alabama's capital city, this live music festival in the streets of downtown Montgomery will feature entertainment from leading names in music. This year's headline will be Darius Rucker, formerly of Grammy-winning band Hootie and the Blowfish, as well as LL Cool J, 3 Doors Down, Hinder, Montgomery Gentry, and more. The festival will also promote local and regional artisans, as well as art education for children.

Memphis in May International Festival

Various Dates in May

With such a wide variety of events and activities at the Memphis in May Festival, you may want to stay in the River City all month long. Start May off at the Beale Street Music Festival at Tom Lee Park downtown where you can sway to the rhythm of some of the biggest names in blues, rock, gospel, R&B, alternative, and soul. Check out bands like Steve Miller Band, Katy Perry, Al Green, Elvis Costello, the Roots, Fall Out Boy, James Taylor, George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic, and many more. Stick around for the international tribute to Chile and celebrate the beautiful country's food and wine, art, music, and dance. There's a barbecue cooking competition, and there's no better way to end the month than with a sunset symphony.

New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival

April 24 - 26 and April 30 - May 3

This year's Jazz Fest celebrates its 40th year of peace, culture, and good live music. Live entertainment runs the gamut from favorite local and regional bands to internationally recognized superstars of rock, funk, soul, and jazz. Come out and see legends like Joe Cocker; Etta James; Neil Young; Buddy Guy; Earth, Wind and Fire; James Taylor; Wynton Marsalis; and Dave Matthews Band, as well as rising stars like Kings of Leon, Ben Harper & Relentless7, Sugarland, and lots more. Sample delicious Cajun and Creole food like crawfish, po-boys, muffulettas, alligator pies, and good old barbecue chicken.
