The Sunshine State isn’t usually the first thing on people’s agenda when they’re making fall travel plans, but there’s really no reason it shouldn’t be. Florida beaches may not be as active when the weather starts getting cooler and crisper, but there are so many activities and attraction throughout the state, you’ll have no problem finding a hot destination, whether it’s for a family excursion or a more intimate trip.
Take Kissimmee, for example. Most people know this as the city right next to Disney World and Universal Studios, and while those can certainly be awe-inspiring additions to the itinerary, Kissimmee has plenty to offer when it comes to having a good time.
One thing’s for sure: It’s not just the same ole same ole when it comes to things to do in Kissimmee. For starters, take to the skies with Warbird Adventures in the aircraft used as a pilot trainer in World War II. Instructors will take you on trips ranging from 15 minutes to an hour. You can have a nice, relaxing flight, or if you’re feeling adventurous, have the instructor thrill you with some aerial acrobatics.
Experience nature and the outdoors a whole new way at Forever Florida, a 4700-acre wildlife conservation area just outside Kissimmee. Dubbed an “eco-ranch,” Forever Florida is dedicated to preserving pristine forests and abundant wildlife here, and their various safaris not only guarantee a wild adventure, you might even learn a thing or two. Especially popular is their Zipline Safari, an excellent way to view all of the area’s diverse ecosystems, through the treetops, suspended 55 feet in the air, on a 750-foot zipline. Talk about a bird’s eye view.
If you want a little culture on your trip, the Osceola Center for the Arts features live theater, concerts, and dances. See Broadway shows like Oklahoma!, A Chorus Line, and The Odd Couple, just to name a few. They also display fantastic works of art in three galleries, from outstanding artists in the area.
After all that excitement, it’ll be time for a hearty meal, but why not go for dinner and a show? Kissimmee’s Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament has been a popular attraction for more than 25 years now, taking visitors back to the 11th century, an idea inspired by the times when royalty would invite guests for feasts and entertainment in the form of knights competing on horseback. You’re definitely in for a feast here, both for your stomach and your eyes.
Trust us; that’s barely even scratching the surface of the happening places to be in Kissimmee. And of course, there are always plenty of places to relax, from world-class golf courses and spas to poolside cabanas and hip bars and lounges. Come down and see for yourself. Whether you’re already in the area for Disney World or you make a special trip, you won’t get bored.
